Its now a trend, folks.
Okay stamps, you've won. I'm officially interested in stamping.
I want to stamp, but I don't want to stamp little cards or anything like that. I want to stamp something BIG!
Where are the big stamps?
I want to stamp t-shirts, tights, bags.
Wouldn't customised stamps be great?
These stamps are made out of twine, PVA glue, and cardboard.
This was my first attempt at making my own stamps.
You can use either wool or twine for this, I used twine so throughout the tutorial I refer to twine rather than wool.
You Will need:
- PVA glue
- Cardboard
- Inkpad/paint
Method
Trace these images onto thick cardboard
- I do this by placing the paper page the images are on over the cardboard then trace the images, this leaves indentations in the cardboard which can then be marked in pencil.
- there are also tracing papers you can buy that make tracing/transfereing much easier.
Cover twine in glue. running between fingers to remove excess glue
I didn't have an inkpad big enough for my stamps, so I brushed a layer of paint onto a plastic lid big enough for my stamps and used that as an inkpad.
Above is actually fabric paint because I wanted to stamp some fabric.
Notes on twine
The type of twine you use is important to the outcome of your stamp.
Pictured above are two stamps - one made from rough twine (Right side) and one made from smooth twine (Left side).
The rough twine stamp has a rougher splotchy finish, whereas the smooth twine has a smoother more refined finish.
I like both, but its good to know what to expect.
Wool has a smiliar finish to the smooth twine.
Synthetic/plastic string doesn't work as well.
