Reupholsterd Stool
The bits and bobs to get this train underway -
First things first you need:
- An old stool
- Material to cover the stool - A thick cotton or upholstery fabric.
- Foam
- Sandpaper
- No more gaps/ wood filler
- Paint
- Craft knife
- Hammer
- Screw driver
- Ruler
- Scissors
- A pen to mark things with
- And my favourite a staple gun.
Lets Get Going
You get home and sometimes things look different. The foam I bought was a tiny bit too thick for the seat when I got home (it looked like such a thin piece in the store), which turned out to be good thing because it gave the stool a little more height. I also bought way too much foam. The memory of that little stool was a lot bigger in my head.
If you worry that the foam is too hard you can place a thinned softer foam or cotton batting to the seat to make it more comfortable to sit on.
Using the wooden seat as a template I traced and cut out a rectangle of foam.
You can glue the foam to the seat. I didn't because I reupholster this stool again in the future I don't to have to sit there scrapping foam off the wooden seat.
I'm going to gush about staple guns for a minute here. Now you probably know you can get hand held staple guns that you load with staples and squeeze to release said staples. I hate this kind of staple gun. They are hard to use. Most are too big to comfortably sit in my hand and take too much pressure to work properly. My hit rate using these is dismal I'll get maybe 4 out of every 10 staples to actually staple the rest will just crumple or stick in the machine. I have this problem a lot with tools. The majority are designed for bigger hands than mine. Lets face they are made for men and no one else. I want tools that fit a ladies had but are still strong and grunty. I just don't have the brute force need to wield these things. Its also really really super easy to staple your hand using one of these.
What I've got is an electric staple gun (actually its a staple/nail gun combo) Its light, fits in my hand, easy to load, and increases my hit rate to 100%. I love this thing. I always thought it would be easier to shoot staples into a limb with something electric but its not. My staple gun comes with a much of safety features. Firstly the thing doesn't do a thing until its switched on, then it only works if the safety isn't on, even then it still won't fire, It has a pressure gauge and will only fire if it is firmly pressed against something sold. There aint nothing I can't staple with this baby. Best tool shop buy ever. It is extremely satisfying.
It seems obvious, but place the foam side down onto the wrong side of the fabric. Is really easy for the brain to skip ahead and miss silly details like that.
