Walking Jacket Pattern
Keep it cool and walk in style.
Measurements
A - measure from collar to just over way down the body. Take np measurement flush on the spine.
For Angus this measurement is 16cm
B - measure all the way round the middle of the body + 2cm
For Angus this measurement is 44 + 2 = 46cm
C - figure out the width of the body strap by measuring from mid body to elbow.
For Angus this measurement is 10cm
D - measure around the neck
For Angus this measurement is 27.5cm
E - measure width of strap at neck, from collar down the ruff.
For Angus this measurement is 7cm
Drafting the Pattern
For Angus this meant I drew a 16cm line.
From line B draw out measurement C. For Angus I drew along 10cm.
Half measurement D and draw a half U shape down from the other end of line A. For Angus I Halved his neck measurement of 25cm to 13.5cm and roughly drew a half U.
( it's takes a bit of practice to get the shape of the U right. I don't have any handy tip make this bit easier. Just plain old trial and error)
Using a pencil draw across from line E and up from line C until the two lines cross. (this is the purple cross in the photo above)
Again this bit is a little trial and error. This curve is important though because it sits up around the shoulder and needs to have a curve.
Add in D ring strap.
Basically you draw out a rectangle. The long side = measurement A plus 4.5cm. And the width = 5cm.
Measurement A on Angus is 16cm + 4.5 = 20.5cm. I drew a rectangle that was 20.5cm in length and 5cm in width.
At halfway down the strap mark a 4.5cm segment.
You can do any adjustments now before you start to sew.
