Easter Marshmallow Popcorn
I have to admit popcorn is not a preplanned snack, its usually thought of during the opening scenes of whatever movie is on. Then its a quick dash of multitask listening as movie continues and kernels pop. Add salt, eat while hot. That's my popcorn preference.
Standing about waiting for stuff to melt and set just sounds all too prepared.
But with movie theatres thinking $15 a movie, plus extra for nibbles, is a reasonable price for a -lets be honest- moderate amount of fun I thought I'd make my own popcorn.
This is a gooey sticky sweet treat, that does take time to prepare. I have to say I'm undecided as to wheteher I enjoyed myself. Its different and I think my palet enjoyed it. I did realise one crucial component of popcorn. Its savoury. Generaly a munchy junkfood night consists of sweeties - lollies, chocolate, maybe a fzzy drink. What sets popcorn apart is that salty butter, prevents total sugar overload. I like that about pocorn and I just don't know how I feel about it switching sides.
But here go..
YOU Will Need
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup marshmallows
- 1 1/2 cup sugar coated chocolate eggs
Popping the Popcorn
Then I found out you can pop popcorn in a paper bag in the microwave.
Simply place 1/3 cups unpopped popcorn into a brown paper bag, fold the bag over a couple of times, microwave on high for 2 minutes.
Damn I never knew.
Insidentily this makes about the right amount of popcorn for this recipe.
