"From the Queen. An invitation for the Duchess to play croquet"
I made this to go with a Wonderland dress I made for an Alice in Wonderland themed ball. Of course you don't have to make an Alice themed bag you could make any themed/not themed bag you want.
You Will Need...
- Fabric (something cotton, might want a different outer/inner)
- Thread
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Fabric Paints
- Trim/String/Cord for the strap
- Button/Snap
- Patterning paper/ wrapping paper
Patterning
Just for easy reference that is:
Width of tablet X 3
X
Height of tablet
And that's it, that's all the pattern you need.
Sewing
You might need to interfece the back of the fabrics to give them a little more strength.
Make sure you write the message in the middle of the letter, pointy end is top, if you write it round the other way the message will be upside down.
I used fabric paints, markers would work too.
If you haven't got any fabric paint/markers you can use acrylic paint or a marker that doesn't bleed on fabric, the lettering won't be water resistant so your bag will have to be kept away from water.
I wanted a little pocket to hold my phone/money/I.D.
I just cut out a wee little rectangle big enough to hold my phone and sewed to the lining. I sewed down the middle of the rectangle to make two pockets.
Cut strap to size (I have used piping string, its what I had lying around)
Turn lining envelope right side out, pin strap to the top corners. Place lining inside the other envelope.
Pin and sew around the envelopes.
Iron, pin, and Topstitch.
Quickly hand sew the opening in the lining.
I've hand stitched a buttonhole and added a brass button (it has a crown it! on theme)
Don't want a button? sew on a snap or even sew on a buckle, go wild !
I've gone with a crown (it is from the Queen after all)
The crown has been hand painted on a scrap of paper, bordered with pompom trim. I just hot glued that bad boy on.
