I found this cool dress pattern in a Burda book. I really like it because it has no waist seem. But it's actually a full length wedding dress. It'll be slightly too big for me, too. Most Burda patterns are. I'm not usually one for mock-ups, I know they let you tailor and draft your own pattern/styl easily but it just feels like a waist of fabric to me. I usual avooid it.
This time I thought I'd make one. This is a pattern I'm likely to use over and over and having a having a pattern I know fits perfectly will just make life so much easier.
Upon transfering and cutting out the pattern I got an idea.

The pattern is too large to fit on a single Burda sheet so you have to add extensions to the base.
The pattern slanted slightly and it put me in mind of a hankerchief skirt.
I have this orange cotton thats been sitting around in my sewng box forever. It's a bit too thick to wear just as day dress but would work as a costume, or a mock-up (why not both?)
I thought I'd combine the hankerchief skirt (I'll exagerate the the slanted hem) and orange fabric to make a monarch butterfly/fairy costume. I prefer a working mock-up that can be reused not just a wasted scrap of fabric (like they made make in sewing class)
I'll note where it would be good for an ordinary hemline to sit once its made and transfer this and any other tailoring to the paper pattern to make a chillin' summer dress later.
